Between three contractors, B&D had more than $3.5 million dollars of work for this project. The state-of-the-art baseball stadium that is home to the Milwaukee Brewers is the largest footprint of a project in B&D history.
Starting with Kinetader Masonry, B&D installed all hollow metal doors, frames, and hardware in the concrete masonry walls and installed fire stopping in the CMU walls.
Drywall contractor Bouma, Kite, Lang had B&D install hollow metal doors, frames and hardware in drywall partition walls in addition to expansion joints and concrete ramps.
Never afraid to take on new tasks, B&D also installed the stadium seating.
Estimating this enormous project was one thing, pulling it off in the field is the stuff of stories to tell for years to come, just one of which is the record breaking 90.5 inches of snow that fell in December 2000.
The key to this project was not the layout, nor the actual installation, but the distribution of materials. B&D took a mechanized approach to save on labor, but the old system of bucket brigade, handling standards and backs and seats was unbelievably labor intensive. At the height of this project we had more than 45 carpenters and laborers. Working second shift in severe winter conditions, these tradesmen earned the right to say, “We have 36,181 reasons to say ‘Where we worked is where you’ll sit!’ ”
The final day before the inaugural game, B&D’s foreman Don Gordon and his subforeman Terry Lofy were finishing up on last minute tweaking as the ball players stood on the field pointing in awe at this incredible stadium. B&D sincerely thanks all those involved whose hard work was such an integral part of this project’s success, its safety and its on-time delivery.
