Historic Window/Door Replacement:
The Majestic Milwaukee Lofts

Gorman & Company contracted B&D to handle the replacement of more than 700 windows on the renovation of the legendary 14-story Majestic Building in downtown Milwaukee.

Once a 2,000-seat vaudeville house in the heart of Milwaukee’s "Great White Way" during the early 1900’s, the Majestic played host to the likes of Harry Houdini, the Marx Brothers and Jack Benny.

Gorman, together with the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority and the City of Milwaukee engineered a $17.2 million public/private partnership to develop the Milwaukee landmark into a diverse residential community.

"The most challenging aspect of this project was working within the tight parameters of downtown and dealing with multiple floors," Project Manager Jim Waarvik said.

The refurbished Majestic Milwaukee Lofts feature 135 "affordable" apartment homes with 36 different floor plans. Each unit features 10-foot ceilings, expansive windows, track lighting and panoramic views.

Originally built in 1907, the Majestic Building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The historic office tower was renovated to preserve its architectural integrity and charm as a "certified historic rehabilitation" in accordance with the Secretary of Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation and Illustrated Guidelines for Rehabilitating Historic Buildings.
